Multifocal lenses
Special Hospital SVETI VID applies the most up-to-date type of multifocal implants, with an incorporated filter against UV radiation and the blue part of the spectrum (UV-blue-blocker), of a special, aspheric design, which offers an additional quality for visual function as it is closely similar to the biological eye lens. It is not an imitation of the real accommodative act, but rather the achievement of the functional effect of the accommodation.
Multifocal lenses are applied in all cases in which there is a necessity for double correction – spectacles for near and far vision, or if persons already wearing multifocal spectacles evidently feel uncomfortable with them. Permanent activities of changing spectacles or difficulties in the adaptation and position of the head while wearing multifocal spectacles are constant complaints of a huge number of people.
A multifocal implant is positioned in the eye – at the place of the natural eye lens and it enables free movements and comfort in life. It does not require any adaptation, and stays in the eye permanently.
In children above the age of four or five, with cataract, bilateral, and with developed visual function to a certain extent – phacoemulsification with the implantation of these lenses offers a chance for a better development of visual function and comfortable attendance at classes afterwards, which was partially impossible with the earlier surgical approach. These children are enrolled in regular schools.
The implantation of multifocal lenses has been performed in Special Hospital Sveti Vid for more than a decade. This leading ophthalmologic institution has introduced contemporary ophthalmology in our area and established guidelines for the further development of refractive surgery.
